Happy August, Michigan Jaycees!
We still have lots of summer left to get out enjoy. However, August is also the time we take a look back at the second trimester and what we have accomplished, put pen to paper to review and submit it to the state and be recognized for our efforts.  I encourage all chapters to do so. Its how we learn from each other on what is working in our communities. Give me or any other state board member a shout and let us know how to help.
On July 25 JCI unveiled the 100th Anniversary Monument. One hundred years of an idea that has brought thousands of young active citizens together. I’ve been a Jaycee for 14 years now, and I’m still amazed at the network it has and the impact it will continue to have for years to come. It continues on a daily basis in District 2 – the networking, the impact, the friendships, the fun … check it out!
If you haven’t had the pleasure of working the pub with the Allegan Jaycees at the BlockRock Medieval Fest, you are certainly missing out. It was great! I’m for sure putting it on my calendar for next year. During my shift I got to meet a Kalamazoo JCI senator and hear stories of the past. Crazy how many chapters Michigan had at one time! The Allegan Jaycees will be running the beer tents at the Allegan County Fair, so if you get a chance to donate some of your time, give them a call.
The Grand Rapids Jaycees are undertaking a large project in support of our troops. Operation Care, as it will be known, is sponsoring 350 soldiers who will be deploying from Michigan in mid-October. Throughout the deployment, we will send care packages and offer support to the families staying behind. We would like to let the troops know that even though they are deployed they are not forgotten! If you or your chapter are interested in assisting with this project by helping collect donations or sponsoring a small group of soldiers specifically, just let Danielle Proctor know.
Remember I said there is still plenty of summer left? Well, what is summer without ice cream? Meet up with some South Kent Jaycees friends as they take a field trip to Moo-Ville on Aug. 8. Or maybe you could help them set up and distribute food to those in need on Aug. 19.
Want more opportunities to expand your Jaycee network? You should meet up with the Greater Muskegon Jaycees as they staff the beer tent at Parties in the Park. It’s a great time to work along side your Jaycee family and help out another chapter, sign up today.
The Lakeview Jaycees will hold their next GMM on Aug. 12 at the Alley Cat Bar & Grill (9775 N. Greenville Road). I’m looking forward to seeing the fun plans they are making.
Until we see each other, keep up the great work and strive to be better than you were yesterday.

Hello Michigan Jaycees!

We are never bored in District 4!  What an awesome turnout for our Sloshball game and congratulations to Team SLIV for winning both the game and a sponsored membership by yours truly to each chapter!
Teams Westy and Dirty-Dotte-PC-RO put up a great fight, and great fun was had by all! Rochester and Detroit picnicked with us all and enjoyed using their new D4 swag! Don’t worry – I saved some for the rest of D4, too. Stay tuned for details on our last social of the year.

Plus, don’t forget about Amerada. It’s only four hours away from Metro Detroit! Amerada 2015 is on track to be the best. We’re headed to Canada this year in Beamsville, Ontario, www.cavespringscamp.on.ca. It’s only $140 US for the entire weekend – food, drink and lodging. See www.jciamerada.com for more information.
